Immigration Reform
American agriculture depends on a reliable and skilled workforce to be successful, and farmers employ more than one million hired workers each year. But with a shortage of U.S. workers willing to work on farms, farmers have come to rely on foreign-born workers. Today’s U.S. immigration policies are broken, causing a shortage of skilled farm workers and threatening the viability of agriculture in many regions of the country.
NCFC is helping lead the Agriculture Workforce Coalition (AWC) as it brings together organizations representing the diverse workforce needs of all producers, whether they grow tree fruit in California or milk cows in New York. The AWC is helping concerned members of Congress craft a framework for new immigration legislation that will meet current and future needs for farmers and their employees.
